Who Am I, Why Am I Here. Can I Cook?

WBMX.COM was a way for myself and Armando (Armando Rivera a/k/a back in the day as "The Puerto Rican Casanova)I to keep the memory of this radio station alive. Most people in radio and many who don't know about WBMX don't realize the impact it had here in Chicago, nationally and internationally.

My personal website has my own information about me and what I have done at http://salamato.com. This spot here deals specifically with what I do here and for our company called Dot1Media.

Those who know me know I've had my share of successes and failures and they're all great learning experiences. Each failure causes you to get up and come back and fight twice as hard. As far as internet radio? We started WBMX. COM at the end of 2005.Before that I've had various companies and projects like Centurion, Baby O Records/S.O.S. Records, Cyber Radio at 92.7 FM in 1997, Modern Tracks, a programmer for Sirius Radio as well as over 30 years in the entertainment business in radio (programming and on-air), tv, movies, record labels, record promotion, A&R, record label distribution, theatre and more.

I program the channels you hear on this website which are also part of the channels you hear on our "Flagship" website, 1CLUB.FM.

What High School Did You Go To? Class Of ?
I went to so many I got dizzy. Started at St. Patrick's, they wanted me to shave, said goodbye, went to Morton East, they threw all the Italians out in 81; Briefly wound up at Proviso West for two weeks until I got chased by the entire football team down Roosevelt Road for "having relations" with the QB's girlfriend (that story is one for the comedy channel). I then wound up at Whitney Young for my 88 day absent Junior year where my mixes being on WBMX helped me make new friends, including the few intelligent and sober staff. At Whitney Young I learned how to wake up a drunk music teacher twice a week and play softball on Loomis, skip school, get my teachers into the clubs I worked at for free for C's, I also learned that if me and my crew made it to either the Oriental or Woods theatres before 10AM we could get all three movies of the day for 3 Bucks! Unfortunately there were no grades available for many of these great lessons I learned. I encountered the most ignorant, illiterate stuttering racist principal ever, had a physical disagreement with him and needless to say, wasn't invited back. I will say this. My drama teacher saw potential in me and she was the only teacher at Whitney Young I have a soft spot for. She was truly a great teacher and I'm glad that I had the honor to learn from her. Her name was Mrs. Carter. At the end of the whirlwind tour I wound up at Steinmetz where I put up the white flag and screamed uncle! NO MORE CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR ME. I used to tell people that I wasn't a "Student" of the Chicago Public School System, I was a "Victim". I would've graduated in '83. I DJ'd, worked on movies, became a stock broker, learned technical analysis just so I could laugh at the overeducated who looked down on people like us.

I've had some really low points and some great highs. Right now? I'm as happy as a fat man eating cake.

But life turned out fine as you can see so it's all good.

Good page Sal, keep up the good work. Have to agree with you on your post, there were good success and not so good, but yes, you did come back with a bang on the internet.

Hopefully you can bring back the Saturday Night Live Aint No Jive, like on the weekends, when WBMX did back then. It was great to listen to especially on the weekend, like you had it on last weekend.

Keep up the good work. If it wasn't for people like us who grew up with this great music we wouldn't be able to pass it on to our kids or introduce it to those who never listened to it. I live for this music. It's music like this that keeps me possitive and in a good mood day in & out. I'll bee a house head till I'm old and gray haired, but I'll make sure I pass this on to my grandchildren the day they come into this word. keep jammin baby.
